*Wall-raising working bee in Central Tilba, South Coast of NSW, ? 4 days -
from Thursday the 12th  to Sunday the 15th of November 2009.*

*Dear friends of strawbale construction,*

We have finalised details for a 4 day wall raising working bee in Central
Tilba, south coast of NSW, approx. 15 kilometres south of Narooma;
facilitated by Frank Thomas from *Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow, Strawbale
Construction. *

*Please join us from the 12th to 15th of November 2009. Times: **08:00am to
05:00pm***

*The project: A split level 2 bedroom home with large recording music
studio, double garage and fire bunker. The complete lower level measures
approx. 220 square metres of which 165 sqm are the first story of the house
with external strawbale walls, the second level of the house measures
approx. 70 square metres (not strawbale). *

It is an infill structure on a slab. Strawbales will be laid on edge to
allow for maximum floor-space. The strawbale walls will be rendered with
clay and lime plasters. Foundation, frame, roof & bottom plate system will
be installed prior to the working bee, ready to get into stacking of bales.

The house was designed paying attention to passive solar principles and
sustainability. It will feature a solar and wood boosted hot water system
and fully remote solar power. A worm composting waste management system will

*The working bee:* This working bee is free of charge for participants,
morning & afternoon tea and light lunches will be provided. In exchange for
your labour you will be able to gain hands-on experience raising strawbale
(SB) walls, making custom sized bales, install frames for openings,
installing top plate and pre-compressing and stitching SB walls. Basic
skills in mixing and applying first coat of clay render can possibly be
learned.

*A special note: The site for this project is surrounded by secluded spotted
gum forest , rainforest gullies and a creek; just outside the beautiful
heritage villages of **Central Tilba** and Tilba Tilba. The villages are
protected by National Trust for their unique historical nature. They are
nestled beneath the majestic Gulaga (**Mt.** **Dromedary**) mountain which
forms part of **Gulaga** **National Park**, just stunning!! Please see

Camping with basic toilet and shower facilities is possible. Bring your own

This week the cabinet of the Maldives held their cabinet meeting  
underwater on the sea bed. They were drawing the world's attention to  
the plight of the Maldives much of which is less that 1m above sea  
level and likely to be swamped unless the world can reach agreement  
to act decisively at Copenhagen.
Transition Town Triangle Plus would like to contribute to the climate  
conversation and will be screening the film "The Age of Stupid" as a  
combined information, discussion and fund raising exercise on Monday  
26th October at 6.30pm. The film will be followed by a light supper  
which is included in the $15.00 ticket price.
The discussion will be led by Sean Burke and Ray Buckley

At the Tilba Saturday market people are taking seed packets and leaving
donations. Some locally grown seed is now becoming available and it is
expected that this supply will increase over time. Last week a good supply
of scarlet runner beans and custard apple seeds were donated. The grower
swears custard apple is one of the best things she has growing in her
garden.

We are now in a financial position to supplement existing stock by
purchasing select seed in bulk from established suppliers. We are awaiting
supply of Cherokee wax bush bean seed. A local grower recommends these
yellow beans as superior in flavour. Worth a try eh? These seeds should be
available at next Saturday's market.

Don't forget to share unused seed around. If you have seed to spare you can
leave it at the seed saver table at the Tilba Saturday market.

John has told us that he is short of people for Tuesday's planting at  
Redwins.  Details are below. If you have not taken part before in an  
event like this NOW is the time to come along and help. It is a  
pleasant way to quietly spend time in the open, to get a little  
gentle exercise and to leave knowing you have not wasted the day but  
helped to reduce erosion, provide habitat for birds, animals and  
insects, and created a small carbon sink.

I saw the film The Age of Stupid last night and the message that I  
took from it was that the root cause of our climate problem is  
CONSUMERISM
It is a film that I think everyone should see and it is a good film  
as well with bold start and a powerful finish. It will be shown again  
at 5pm tonight (Tuesday 27th Oct) and tomorrow, Wednesday 28th Oct at  
3.05pm at the Narooma Cinema and if you have not already seen it I  
encourage you to see it now.

As you are aware TTT plus has a stall at the market each Saturday. The markets have been going really well and have been recognised in the latest Sydney Morning Herald good food guide. We are looking for mo

As you are aware TTT Plus has been actively involved in promoting the Central Tilba Markets which are held in the large hall each Saturday between 8am and 12 midday..TTT Plus has a table at the markets where members can sell their produce[eg  cakes, jams, seeds, fruit and vegetables all made or grown locally] .Persons who sell contribute to the total cost of the table . We are urgently looking for more members to sell their home produce from the TTT Plus table
We are also URGENTLY looking for a member or members to wo/man the table for THE NEXT 3  SATURDAYS and   possibly be available in the future to assist. The markets are attracting many locals who come to buy local produce rather than the food-mile-produce which comes through Woolies.Our market is unique as apparently it is the only market which appears in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide
If you want to know more or can assist please ring ANNE or PETER on 44737300 who will set up the table this Sat, but will have to leave early

Subject: [tttplus] Tilba markets  new sellers and persons to wo/man table

As you are aware TTTPlus has a table at the Tilba markets each Saturday. The table is available to any TTT Plus member who wants to sell local produce at the market[eg eggs,fruit, vegetables, seeds, ,jams, cakes etc]. At this time we urgently need more produce to sell and members are encouraged to bring along local produce to sell from our table.The Tilba markets operate each Saturday between 8am and 12 mid-day and has been very successful and has the unique distinction of being included in the latest Sydney Morning H.erald Good Food Guide.
It is important that TTT Plus continues to have a table at the markets and it is essential that we have local produce to sell.
TTT Plus has assisted in promoting the markets as it is one of the aims of TTT Plus to have our local community become more self sufficient and not rely on produce ,  that has travelled many food-miles.
We also URGENTLY need persons for the next 3 Saturdays who can wo/man our table. Peter and Anne will set up the table this Saturday but have to leave early to travel to Sydney

At the showing of the climate change film 'The Age of Stupid' we gave  
members of the audience a sheet of paper with some questions on it.  
Here are the responses.

Q.	What do you feel all levels of government should be doing?
A.	Encourage the exploration of non-fossil fuels and renewable energy

Q. 	What would you like to learn more about?
A.	Best methods for heating
	Alternatives within the home or garden
	What are YOUTH doing about THEIR future
	How to convince our leaders and skeptics that we MUST act now
	
Q.	What skills do you or could you share with your community
A.	Beekeeping
	Currently working to create awareness and have been doing this since  
1983
	Work in TT Bega
	Talk about climate change on my community radio show
  	Networking
	Awareness raising
	Talk about future scenarios

Q	What adjustments to your life have you made
A.	Solar HWS
	Rainwater tank
	Improved insulation
	Solar panels for power
	Use of greywater
	Being more aware of individual impact	(this response appeared more  
than once)
	Growing our own food 			(this response appeared more than once)
	Cutting back on water and electricity use (this response appeared  
more than once)
	NO air flights
	Less consumption	(this response appeared more than once)
	Walking to town

Q.	What could you be doing extra?
A.	Growing own vegetables

	DON'T JUST STAND THERE - DO SOMETHING
