Since the inaugural meeting at SERTEC and selection of a steering group, lots has been happening that I'll outline in point form. * Met the criteria to form a TT with the UK body and named the month of December to cease to exist. * Decided the SETT region to be the shires of - Bega Valley, Eurobodalla, Snowy River, Bomballa, Cooma Monaro and in Victoria, Far East Gippsland. Basically, our broad water catchment. * Launched the web site - www.transition.org.au as the main point of contact and information. * A Transition Town Triangle Plus has formed a steering group for the area of Bermagui - Quaama - Cobargo - Tilba Tilba and Narooma. * Presented in Eden who have set up a steering committee. * Presented in Cann River with excellent feedback. * Interview with Bega District News to go out in Fridays paper. Press Release to others within the SETT region.Negotiated a regular weekly column in the BDN. * Initiated a weekly radio program on ABC radio every Tuesday morning at 9.30 titled 'Transition Initiatives'. This Tuesday talking to David Holmgren on future scenarios. So as you can see, the concept of Transition Towns has captured the imagination of people wherever they hear about it. One recommendation we have is for everyone to read Rob Hopkins book - ' THE TRANSITION TOWNS HANDBOOK' as the best resource available to get a clear understanding about what its all about. There is a link on our web site as to how you can purchase the book and also Candelo Books in Bega now stock copies. Then there a 12 steps that the UK gang recommend we follow toward reaching an Energy Descent Action Plan. Number 1 is ' Form a steering group'. The first item on the agenda for this group is to evaluate how long it would take us to reach step 5 -' form groups'. This is where groups form to look at the components of design, eg - Food Security, Waste, Transport, Housing, Energy etc etc.We come together at step 12 to pull it all together. So the TT Bega group decided to cease to exist on December 21st ( I recall). Great isnt it !! dont you wish all committees did this :-) .On this day we have the GREAT UNLEASHING ( Step 4). A massive party to celebrate unleashing the genius within our community to begin the process of design. A moment in time when we can all look back and say -' That was when it all started'. Our last thoughts about where to hold the party was to close off Church St in Bega, though not confirmed, and let it rip. Hope this explains it. Again, to understand TTs the 'The Transition Handbook' by Rob Hopkins is just so inspirational. There is a link to purchasing it on the home page at - www.transition.org.au Also, Candelo Books in Bega are stocking it. kind regards John ADOBE WEBSITE DESIGNS wrote: > Hello John, > > What is meant by " * Met the criteria to form a TT with the UK body > and named the month of December* to cease to exist*." > > Regards > Kym Mogridge > > > Champagne wrote: > >>Hello everyone, >> >>Thank you for joining this mailing list to keep you all abreast about >>developments from the South East Transition Towns initiative. >> >>Since the inaugural meeting at SERTEC and selection of a steering group, >>lots has been happening that I'll outline in point form. >> >> * Met the criteria to form a TT with the UK body and named the >>month of December to cease to exist. >> >> * Decided the SETT region to be the shires of - Bega Valley, >>Eurobodalla, Snowy River, Bomballa, >> Cooma Monaro and in Victoria, Far East Gippsland. >>Basically, our broad water catchment. >> >> * Launched the web site - www.transition.org.au as the main >>point of contact and information. >> >> * A Transition Town Triangle Plus has formed a steering group >>for the area of Bermagui - Quaama - >> Cobargo - Tilba Tilba and Narooma. >> >> * Presented in Eden who have set up a steering committee. >> >> * Presented in Cann River with excellent feedback. >> >> * Interview with Bega District News to go out in Fridays >>paper. A Transition Town steering group is a terminal group, that is they decide at the outset to dissolve when the next stage of TT moves forward (these guys lay down the awareness raising). When the awareness raising is complete (in the case of Bega 19th December) the next stage begins, this is the formulation of the EDAP or Energy Descent Action Plan. The end of the steering groups work is marked by a party to celebrate the community's talent/genius and to mark the date of the community moving into transition. This event is called the 'Great Unleashing' , at this point the next group of talented people take on specific portfoilios in the EDAP, they come from the community and the portfolios are elected by the community. The end result is a comprehensive plan to reduce energy consumption, which is then presented to community and council etc. Derek Povel ----- Original Message ----- From: ADOBE WEBSITE DESIGNS To: Champagne Cc: transitiontown at australiancommunities.org.au Sent: Wednesday, August 13, 2008 7:54 AM Subject: Re: [Transitiontown] Update Hello John, What is meant by " * Met the criteria to form a TT with the UK body and named the month of December to cease to exist." My favourite bit of the movie was the suggestion for 'block farmers' - where a group of neighbours get together and knock down their back fences to join their blocks together and then employ one of their number to be the 'farmer' for the rest of them and grow food in their yards. A simple and achievable vision to get fresh local food in a cooperative way. Of course, a few gates would probably also work along with some general agreements about working hours for the farmer (just so you didn't find yourself looking out the window at 6am, with curlers still in your hair and wearing a threadbare old nightie, at someone hoeing the turnips two feet away!) Quite apart from the movie, I got to meet folk I hadn't met before as well as strengthen old connections. It was great to chat to people over a coffee! I'm looking forward to doing it again. So we would like to host an information sharing event on Saturday 25th October in the afternoon. We would kick off with a shared lunch and start the program at about 1.30pm somewhere in Bega. The title could be: What ideas do you have for energy generation at Bend, in the Bega Valley and the world? We want to see the broad picture and make our plans in the wider context. It would be great to do this as part of the Transition Town process. Please get back to me with your thoughts about putting this in the TT context, about the date, a venue, ideas for speakers and anything else. love, Jenny 6492 5901 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
